A street in Guadalupe Nuevo
Named after the Our Lady of Guadalupe, Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo is located at the northern central part of Makati. The barangay lies along Kalayaan Avenue and EDSA, where road access to so many business districts of Manila are located. Guadalupe Nuevo is a combination of residential and commercial area, but the major establishments range from small to medium sized only.
During the American Occupation in the Philippines, the US government developed resettlements for their soldiers assigned in McKinley and Makati. Guadalupe is one of the barrrios that is close to Fort McKinley, so the military leaders decided to inhabit the then grassy plain of Guadalupe and let the soldiers and some of their families reside there.
However, when WWII took place in Manila and destroyed most parts of the cities, victims have found refuge in the wetlands of Guadalupe and have since started living there to start their life anew. Hence, the name of the barangay is Guadalupe Nuevo or New Guadalupe.
