5-century old Nuestra Senora de Gracia in Guadalupe Viejo
The barangay counterpart of Guadalupe Nuevo is Guadalupe Viejo, which is located at the northern most section of Makati. It is right at the gateway of the said city, if you’re coming from North EDSA. What makes Viejo different from its barangay counterpart is that it is considered as a religious site than as a purely residential or business area. It is the home to a number of historic sites like the Nuestra Senora de Gracia Parish.
Guadalupe Viejo is named after the barangay patroness, Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe. The barangay was named by its early Spanish inhabitants in 17th century. The Augustinian Order priests were the first people who inhabited the area, and thus, the establishment of a monastery and a church 5 centuries ago. The origin of the barangay can go as far as 1601 when Nuestra Senora de Gracia Parish was built. Today, Viejo is known for its resiliency as it has survived many natural disasters and internal wars that have had ravaged the area before.

Location of the Barangay
Guadalupe Viejo is primarily bounded by EDSA and Pasig River. By barangay boundaries, it is located very close to Mandaluyong (north), Pinagkaisahan (south), some sections of Bel-Air and Poblacion (east), and Guadalupe Nuevo (west). The close proximity of the barangay to the business district of Makati City makes it a good location for major establishments to be erected there like Rockwell Power Plant, Loyola Memorial Chapels, and New Zealand Creamery, Inc.
Barangay G. Viejo residents get their source of income by office employment, factory work and business. The lifestyle may not be as grandeur as other Makati villages because of the moderately high unemployment rate, but the barangay administrators continue on planning and implementing livelihood programs for the residents. Additionally, you can find a considerable amount of apartments within the barangay.
