A member of the Cluster 3 of City of Makati, Barangay Olympia is no more than 30 minutes away from the main CBD attractions like Glorietta, Ayala Triangle Gardens and Greenbelt. The 0.4565 square kilometers barangay was once a combination of 3 sitios namely Obrero, Proper and Sampalukan prior to its modern-day state.
The residential village used to be called Hinyero, which was named after an engineer of German nationality had lived there. Some years later, Hinyero became Olympia, which is another name derived from a huge factory for tiles and bricks located near the Pasig River. Today, Olympia is changing into a highly modernized suburb with the establishment of a top-class condominium, restaurants and by hosting a part of the famous Makati Circuit.
Location of the Barangay
Barangay Olympia is strategically located near Pasong Tamo to the north, Philippine Racing Club (PRC) to the east, and Pateros to the south, and Kalayaan Avenue to the west. Residents can easily go to Carmona to visit the Makati Circuit, or go to Pasong Tamo to get to the Central Business District (CBD).
• Feast of the Holy Cross is celebrated every 3rd Sunday of May, where the residents would gather in the plaza to participate in the festivity. A street parade and Holy Mass are held to give praise and thanks to the barangay Patron Saint.
• To rent a house in Olympia can give you an opportunity to be in the same neighborhood as Ed Castrillo who is a notable sculptor. Other notable figures residing in the area include painter Edgar Hernandez and Councilor Romeo Medina.
Olympia may be smaller than other barangays in Cluster 3, but it is popular for historic sites. For one, it is where the English Cemetery is located. Secondly, the Trambia Railway Station that used to be the center of public transportation of Makati and Manila.
