Murphy’s Makati is one of the few authentic Irish bars in Manila. It is a unique Irish pub and restaurant with a welcoming and friendly ambiance in the heart of Makati. The vibe, decor and atmosphere are very genuine and it feels like being back home in the UK.
Murphys Irish Bar is not on the main track of bars in Makati. We actually found it by taking a slight detour off one of the main roads and then luckily spotted the green sign that says Murphy’s.
Murphy’s has three rooms. There is a non-smoking public bar, a smoking lounge and a function room. The smoking lounge has a part open-air, part-airconditioned atmosphere that smoking customers have come to love.
Guinness and Kilkenny available
Guinness and Kilkenny
Murphy’s Makati is one of the few places in Manila where you can find high quality imports like Guinness and Kilkenny as well as locals like San Mig Lite. They are also one of the surprisingly small number of bars that show the major live sports events which are enjoyed by an excited crowd on the widescreen TVs. I was there during the World Cup, and can tell you, the crowd was really loving it. It can get loud during sporting events, but the noise isn’t really a distraction. The ambiance is laid back and has a “sporty” feel. The crowd is good and it is very popular with expats and filipinos.
No Irish pub would be fully complete without live music and Murphy’s provides this on a regular basis.
Quiz nite at Murphys
Offering a full menu including all-day breakfast, appetizers, sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, and a choice of international foods, Murphy’s Makati is a local favourite. House specialties include traditional lamb stew, fish and chips, meat pies, bangers and mash, as well as pasta and curry dishes, tandoori chicken, nachos and so much more. It is all very genuine and tastes like home. The best UK pub grub that I’ve had. Prices for food were very reasonable, especially given the quality.
The very popular weekly quiz night draws in the regulars and don’t miss the annual St. Patricks Day celebrations on 17th March (and all that week).
